One year ago today we met for the first time in Orlando. We met at about 2:21 PM at the Orlando airport. Brian wore his fancy tan khaki pants with his brand new blue polo shirt from Target and his brown shoes. Katy wore jeans and a red Ralph Lauren polo shirt (also new) and tennis shoes with a Lulu Guinness handbag. (which got stolen in Hawaii before our honeymoon/wedding) I was very surprised that Brian was dressed so nicely. I expected him to be wearing a tie-dye shirt and old battered jeans with Birkenstocks. This was not the case! After hugging (sort of) we went to get our luggage and got lost at the airport due to distraction. After we found my bag we put all 78 lbs of it into the limo.

Then, we went on our way to the “free 15 minute grocery stop” and bought random food and drinks including raisins and some weird lemon drink that Brian had to keep on ice for five days and repeatedly kept asking me if I wanted some. We drove to the hotel and attempted to check-in and failed because it was too early. So, the hotel held our bags for us (and groceries too). We rode the I-Trolley to the Ripley’s Believe It Or Not Museum. We sat next to each other on the trolley and purposely refrained from any contact whatsoever until we accidentally bumped shoulders causing me to jump in my seat! Usually, I find Ripley’s Museums to be amusing and somewhat interesting with memorable exhibits but I really cannot even recall one exhibit in the museum. Brian is more unusual than anything in that museum!

The hotel said we could check-in at 4 PM and got back at 4:15 PM but we still could not check-in. They offered free drinks at the bar and since we do not drink we declined. The manager was supposed to bring us the keys but instead she just waved across the room and we had to pick up our keys. Then we sat down in the two chairs. We continued to sit in the chairs without saying anything until Brian got up the nerve to give me a card. The card was very sweet and mushy and I was mildly horrified. The card is now hanging our above our window.

Not long after, we took a cab to Seasons 52 Restaurant. Brian had made reservations a week ahead of time because it is a very trendy and healthy restaurant. I felt underdressed the entire time that I was there. The menu changes every week and they had a great vegetarian platter that I had. Brian ordered shrimp pasta and later asked me if I was offended by him eating seafood. I said no. We ate our meal in almost silence with a little bit of awkward conversation. Brian gave the waitress a small tip because he is cheap but mostly because she tried to take his plate away from him before he was finished. He also gave the waitress the “look of death” for putting her hands on his plate before he was done. I learned then never to touch his plate. But now he lets me and I’m not afraid!

The restaurant called a cab for us back to the hotel and back we went. We got back to our hotel and I unloaded about 30 lbs of games from my suitcase like Jenga, Mancala, and Clue. Brian brought the Lord of the Rings version of Risk and cards. We played Jenga for a long long time that night. …and that is all you get. –Brian & Katy
