DSL Install
December 14, 2006
A little while ago, I installed DSL (Damn Small Linux) on an older machine that I have and wish to use as a testbed for various things… It’s really an interesting distro - I like that it takes about 1 minute to get it up and going. It seems very fast and efficient but I don’t think I would ever use it as my primary machine. But it is darn impressive that they manage to get the OS *and* a ton of apps in under 50 mb… Anyone know of any impressive niche versions of Linux out there that they recommend?

Been a while since I posted here. Nice new design.
It’s not exactly a distro for a PC, but it’s still useful. The DD-WRT Linux distro, is designed to run on a lot of different Wifi routers. Specifically the Linksys WRT series. A buddy of mine helped me set one up. The router, as it comes from Linksys, is pretty stripped down. But, once you put DD-WRT on it, you can do a LOT with it. People have set them up as lean-servers, or as streaming media clients in a home-theater configuration. Mine, has been configured to work as an ethernet bridge between my TiVo box, and the rest of the wireless network. Rather than buying a wifi adapter. Nice solution I thought, and it extends my wifi range.
