The painters are coming…
February 22, 2007
Finally, our kitchen and bathroom are getting painted next week. The painters are coming on Monday and supposedly will be able to get both rooms painted in one day. I’m not entirely convinced that some 80 year old man with a paint brush will not just show up and say he’s ready to get to work - but we shall see. The most annoying part is that we have to clear out all the kitchen cabinets & drawers and take everything out of the bathroom and remove everything from the walls - fun fun!
I’m getting ready to eBay stuff - we have some stuff we want to get rid of… I am also sorting through my pig ornaments to see which ones I want to keep and which ones I want to get rid of on eBay.

Hey, you two better clear out of there while they’re scraping and sanding, and probably for a while afterward. There’s no doubt in my mind that there is lead in your original paint. You guys don’t want to be breathing that stuff. Rent a room.

Be sure and seal up the rooms that they will not be painting, cover your furniture, and I probably don’t have to say, but get your housekeeper to make a special visit to vacuum furniture and floors.

We will definitely seal up rooms we are not using. I was told they would be doing “appropriate cleaining” after they scraped and prepped for painting - we will see. I am not so sure that staying at a Hilo hotel is any better than staying in a lead paint chip debris infested area. At least I have the a/c in my office so I can keep myself on a seperate air supply…

At the very least, buy yourself a few dust masks, or a particulate respirator. I find mine invaluable when doing things involving dust and such. Like vacuuming for one. I also found it very helpful when I was removing the previous owner’s crappy DIY tint job on my car. Yes power steam is safe, but the stink from the glue probably isn’t.
If you’re going to stay in your office, do like the Department of Homeland Defense says, plastic sheets and duct-tape around the door frame.
