Life on Mars

August 25, 2007

Apparently, life might have been found on Mars recently from the 1976 Viking Probe but at the time we overlooked the hydrogen based life form comparable to bacteria found in Antarctica.  This is extremely fascinating and I am looking forward to seeing what scientists find out from studying the data further.

A number of news outlets are reporting this but the most notable one is FOXNews who is of course screaming that it is not true by bringing in some random janitor professor that they found in a gutter roaming the halls of a university.  FOX even has a “space center” which I am sure talks much about the ever lofty goal of GWB to “visit the moon” - because that’s never been done before…

We are thinking about retiring on Mars. Brian has been in contact with a company planning to take a host of people to Mars in the future and they have a great plan. This should be interesting…

FBI gets into the fight on piracy.

I am disturbed by the fact that the FBI considers piracy to be the third most important priority under terrorism and counter-intelligence. Is murder no longer a problem in this country? I hardly think cracking down on 12-year-old kids with a DVD burner should be a top priority in the country. They are putting a hefty value on this media. Five years in jail and $250K seems steep for some kid who is sharing songs on the internet. Is the entertainment industry hurting that badly? Alternatively, is it just artists that are terrible who are not making money?

Empathy is scientifically proven.

This article is quite interesting…

Russian candidate says he was kidnapped against will I cannot really put my finger on why this story made me laugh. Maybe it is because it is a Chinese news source or maybe it just sounds rather funny, I have no idea.

The Mars Beneath the Waves This is not an exceptionally important article and it is not even very informative. I simply like it because it does raise the point that we need to explore the oceans in depth more than we are now. People around the world are more concerned with what is in space versus the unknown that lives all around us and shares a planet with us.
