A real gem - Huckabee says wives should submit to husbands

January 15, 2008

Mike Huckabee, card carrying misogynist, says that wives should submit to their husbands. He says that women should do this because the Bible says to do so.

Well, the Bible also says to kill people from other faiths (Deuteronomy, Chap 17:2-3, 5). So, is Huckabee going to kill everyone who isn’t a Christian too?

Is he going to just pick and choose what he wants to see as “truth” from the Bible?

Hawaii Superferry Voyages Cancelled

December 29, 2007

The Superferry was never given a warm welcome on any of the neighbor islands. Many of us that live on neighbor islands would prefer to keep our islands rural, peaceful, less built up and polluted, and with less crime than Oahu. I know most polls show that a strong majority of the people that live on Oahu support the Superferry. I also don’t understand why someone would want to ride six hours (give or take) each way to go to another island just to be able to take their own car. Renting a car is often less than $20 a day so I don’t understand… When/If the Superferry comes to the Big Island I could drive two hours to Kona, board the Superferry paying a fare for myself and my vehicle, ride six hours, kill a bunch of sealife, and then arrive on Oahu. Alternatively, I can pay $39 (or less) to fly to Oahu in 30 minutes and rent a car for less than $30. I fail to see how the Superferry is a better option. The best part is the fact that they don’t seem to have thought about Hawaii’s very rough winter seas. If I board a boat in December (which oddly happens almost every December) I always vomit. Most of the people riding the Superferry lately seem to be vomiting as well because of the rough ride. Now, this taxpayer subsidized, environmental hazard, military transport, crime bringing, sea behemoth has had to cancel voyages because of the rough seas. People are being stranded and many are very angry because of this. Big surprise.

Anyone actually been on the Superferry?

Maxim’s So-Called Article on Ann Coulter is Disgusting

October 17, 2007

While I cannot stand Ann Coulter for her insanely terrible politics, I think it is egregious that Maxim would point out all of her figure flaws over pointing out how she’s racist, misogynistic, anti-progressive, or how she has an absolute hatred of all people who are not just like her (Republican, Christian, white, heterosexual). In pointing out all of her figure flaws, it has done a terrible disservice to women. Maxim is really saying that they have no respect at all for women and that they have nothing to say that is relevant. That is really pathetic.

Fortunately, Maxim has a small and dwindling audience. Therefore, we will probably not have to hear what they have to say for much longer.

Walmart even removed the magazine from all stores in 2003 in response to customer complaints.

Hawaiian Psychology

October 14, 2007

On Brian’s blog and around the house, we have been discussing Freud, feminism, politics, and Hawaiian Psychology - a normal day for us.

At any rate, I am rather interested in the concept of Hawaiian Psychology. Indigenous cultures, specifically Hawaiian culture, often have very interesting and unique ways of looking at problems or ways of living that western culture has too often chosen to ignore. A book on Hawaiian psychology actually exists - Ka Lama Kukui Hawaiian Psychology: An Introduction by William C. Rezentes. The book is primarily for psychologists that are treating Native Hawaiian patients but I think it would be interesting for laymen. I have heard of people (even the courts) performing Ho‘oponopono in order to resolve problems between families, groups, or even inner struggles.

We have also been discussing Freud’s extremely misogynist case study of Dora. I find it disturbing that Freud’s conclusion was that women like to be sexually assaulted by men. He also asserts that Dora really wanted the sexual assault and even further that she should have submitted to it. Freud also seems to assert some kind of empiricism of his method but it is almost as though he never realizes that the entire scenario that he has “derived” are wholly constructed and based on entirely questionable interpolations. Given the history of Dora - her father was having an affair with a family friend, the older [than Dora] husband of the cheating wife comes on to her and sexually assaults her on several occasions, her father becomes distant to her and uses her as a pawn in his sexual games, the cheating wife betrays her trust, her father and creepy husband of cheating wife deny that Dora has been approached by creepy husband, her mother does not really do anything to help her, she’s a Jew living in Germany during a very bad period, and she was subjected to ice-water therapy and shock therapy. If this was not all bad enough, she was sent to Freud who also added insult to injury by telling her that she wanted to kiss him too and asserted that all of the above things were her fault. I do not think that I have to point out any additional reasons why she was not a happy person…

Does anyone have any thoughts on the case study of Dora?

People insulted by Ahmadinejad’s visit to Columbia?

September 25, 2007

FauxNews has an article about Ahmadinejad’s visit with part of the opening paragraph that states that “watching Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad speak to students at Columbia University showed just how disconnected certain factions of American society have become to the sacrifices of their sons, daughters, parents and spouses.” (Such a statement would not be inconsistent with a website that has an advertisement at the bottom of the page for “free Ann Coulter email addresses.”)

I think this article is completely untrue and absurd. The people interviewed in the article seem to think that squashing free speech and only hearing from people that have like-minded viewpoints is the best way to deal with problems in the world. Ahmadinejad was not even treated well at Columbia - he was blasted by the president of Columbia for a laundry list of reasons why people dislike him. Ahmadinejad is a total joke - his statements about homosexuals in Iran, his positions on women, and his stance on nuclear weapons make him a ridiculous figure. Nonetheless, he was not afforded the same respect that any other world leader would have gotten from the university which will only serve to bolster negative world opinions of Americans. I think it was completely appropriate that he was laughed at for stating that Iran has no homosexuals - such a statement is deserving of laughter merely for being entirely untrue and absurd. It is a well documented fact that Iran does have homosexuals and they routinely kill them by hanging, stoning, sword halving, or dropping them off a perch for being gay. Iran is violating basic human rights of homosexuals, women, and well most everyone in their country.

Iran: We don’t have any homosexuals

September 24, 2007

You can click here to watch Iran’s Ahmadinejad say that his country does not have the “phenomenon” of homosexuality and he does not know who told the Americans that they do have homosexuals.  They also don’t have basic human rights - so congratulations on that too.

Political Test

September 19, 2007

One of the best political tests, in my opinion, is the Political Compass. I have often described myself as a Libertarian given my streak of being pro-free enterprise and the fact that I do not care much for governing authorities. It is rather interesting that one online test I took says that I am a “Socialist.” Interestingly enough, when I took the test it put me right on the same spot as Hillary Clinton - right next to Ghandi. The Political Compass test also said I was more of a “Leftist Libertarian.” Has anyone else taken the Political Compass test and with what result?

I hate Walmart

September 14, 2007

I cannot think of a single reason that Walmart exists other than the fact that they deliver low prices. They buy products from developing nations that have few (if any) labor laws and treat employees inhumanely. If that was not bad enough, they often put smaller local businesses out of business in whatever locality they occupy. They provide low paying jobs with health insurance that the employees cannot pay for with their meager salary. Walmart is also responsible for bringing the coqui frog to the Big Island. They also use way too many plastic bags and do not encourage proper bagging procedures thus causing waste and harm to the environment.

In light of these issues (and others) the Big Island should be having a public hearing for a proposed bill to ban big box retailers. Kauai has already banned big box retailers. It should be interesting to see how this issue unfolds…

Top Referrers

September 8, 2007

Naturally, I am always interested to look at my website stats to see who came here, from what search engine, etc. This time, I was most interested to look at my website stats to find my top referrers. Among some of them were Australia, Sweden, Netherlands, Singapore, China, Japan, Norway, Brazil, Switzerland, Italy, UK, Czech Republic, Seychelles, and others - I wish those people would post as it would make for a most interesting discussion.

I also found some somewhat disturbing stats. Here are a couple of other visitors: US Military (16 visits this month) & US Government (1 visit this month) and ARPANET (15 times this month). Last month, the US Military visited 2 times. Am I becoming a threat? (lol) Am I on some list of potential terrorists? It is certainly not a secret that the US Government tracks the movements of environmental and animal activists. However, I do not belong to any organized groups - so it is curious. Perhaps, because of the current administration they are tracking all known vegetarians. Ha.

At any rate, I invite the US Military and US Government visitors to post and let everyone know why they had DU on the Big Island and lied about it, why so many feral cats on Mauna Kea have leukemia from DU, why the people living in Waiakea have been breathing in DU and have had problems [respiratory, cancer, etc], why they say DU is safe but have training videos that speak to the contrary, and what they are going to do about it? Feel free to post.

The senator who is gay but says he is not gay that hates gays…

August 29, 2007

This is such a joke.  Senator Larry Craig is such a ridiculous figure.  He is one of a number of conservatives (religious and otherwise) in the last few years to turn out to be gay.  Way to show the self-hate!  It is truly sad that these geezers are so far in the closet that they cannot admit that they are gay and actually be happy for once in their lives.  Are all Republicans gay?  Or just the gay hating ones?

In other news, I was actually able to watch the YouTube/CNN Democratic debates that took place about a month ago.  I really enjoyed it and thought that it was a unique and interesting format.  The Republicans will be having their debate sometime in November, I think.   I really thought that the standouts were Clinton, Obama, Biden, and Richardson.

Living in Hawaii

July 4, 2007

It is really quite odd living in Hawaii.  When I lived on the mainland I was very interested in politics and was very concerned about domestic and foreign issues.  I have found that living in Hawaii has really changed my level of interest in world politics.  We really do live in our own little isolated world here.  Brian reads the news more often than I do so he tends to keep me abreast of world politics.  Occasionally, something he mentions piques my interest and I look into it more.  But frankly, security here is relaxed and our way of living is just not bothered by terrorism and all of the other things that people worry about living on the mainland.  We are so far removed from living like that - it’s like living in a pre-911 society, really.  I think I am done rambling…

Global Warming

March 22, 2007

I was just reading an article on CNN about Gore’s visit to the Senate to talk about global warming.  People actually do not think that global warming is occuring?  Are they insane?  I’m sure the polar ice caps are just thawing for kicks.  Anyone notice how the only senators who think global warming is a joke are from  states where the only science that is taught involves the use of a weather rock?

April 25, 2006

Bush is such an idiot. He keeps spewing out rhetoric about how high gas prices are a matter of national security but all he does is put a little oil from the reserves out on the market. That does not help the oil problem - it just keeps it at bay for a month or two longer. Give me a break.
