Too Young for Birth Control?

October 17, 2007

ABC has an article on How Young Is Too Young for Birth Control; the article highlights a proposal to give birth control to sexually active kids at a middle school in Maine. The school is already giving out condoms to these teens.

Apparently, Maine has a law that says you cannot have sex under age 14. I would wager a guess that Maine also has laws that say you cannot drive over the speed limit (at any age) but I would imagine that many people break that law. I do not think that I should have to point out that people don’t always follow the rules - especially hormonal teenagers.

But that is the real crux - this is a middle school - not all of these kids are even teenagers, they are pre-teens. However, if these kids are choosing to have sex then it is crucial that they are given access to birth control. They should definitely be choosing condoms over birth control to prevent disease and pregnancy. At least someone is there to educate these kids on proper birth control and disease prevention methods.

The students will need to have their parents permission to access any of the services offered by the health center. Many of the parents seem to be up in arms about this because they view the school as enablers of sexual activity. These kids would probably engage in sexual activity without protection just like many adults and not think of the consequences until later.

I think the real questions are: Would you want your child to die of AIDS? Would you want your child’s education to be over at age 11?

If you say yes, you should have your children taken away from you. If you say no, then you should support access to birth control.

They should probably start thinking about why their kids want to have sex at age 11. I think it would be wise to offer some kind of counseling to understand why these kids want to have sex at age 11.

According to Dr. James Dobson, homosexual unions will cause a rise in the number of children born out of wedlock. Can anyone explain this?

Did anyone see this little gem from several days ago? I just came across it on the April 4 post.

“While I agee with you that they should respect your right to privacy, I feel I must remind you that this country you live in is a religious country. Why do you think a lot of the original settlers came here, many for religious freedom. You have every right to not believe in God or to believe in Him. He believes in you and loves you. Have a great day!

Too bad I did not see this until today…  I fail to see how a piece of land is religious.

The speech by President Bush last night was relatively boring, lacking in substance, and full of stupid questions. He is not a well-spoken man at all. He also lacks the ability to stay on topic. Most of the reporters looked like they were going to explode from anger or perhaps stupidity. I am not sure that he really addressed any of the questions directly but rather just danced around them and answered each question in a similar manner. Overall, it was a complete and utter waste of my time.

Hawaii telescope sees planet-forming disk around a star–Interesting article.

Young Americans are at a huge risk for STDs due to blatant stupidity–Something tells me that not many INTJs have STDs… These young people ask “why did this happen to me?” How can they not understand how they got an STD if they chose not to use protection? Are these people so incredibly stupid that they cannot go and get tested for STDs? Completely irrational…

Who steps on toothpicks?–I can understand how someone could step on a rusty nail but a toothpick?! What kind of parents just throw toothpicks on the floor anyway? Do they have parties where they skewer cheese and when the party is over they just toss the toothpicks into the floor? Bleh, people are stupid!

Does anyone know who this guy is? Does he not know that using defamatory language pretty much negates his case? How am I supposed to know who he is considering he gave no indication of exactly what he is talking about. It is really too bad education is lacking so severely in the US that people cannot even identify a noun that shows just what they are trying to say. I also checked to see if I had ever mentioned this guy on the website. There is no mention of a “Julian” “Cope” “Julian Cope” “J. Cope” etc. Bleh, people do not understand the law nor do they make an effort to be helpful. It is at least humorous.

Latest email snippet from someone who doesn’t know me:

“Stupid people are not necessarily bad people. Give

them a break every now and then, not everyone can be

born brilliant like you. I know plenty of dum dums who

are also nice as can be. Plus many times the dummies

wind up being your boss in the real world. Takes all

kinds you know.”

I just started laughing and I don’t think I shall ever stop. They completely do not understand the premise of my disdain for the stupid. I also found the boss part extremely amusing.

Caring for people is a futile waste of my mental energy.  I’m extremely depressed and I’m not doing so great mentally, my thought processes are extremely skewed… I keep pushing people farther away. Sometimes, I wish I wasn’t such a narcissist, then maybe I could talk about the *real* problem. But, I am. So, I don’t. And *some* people are incredibly stupid.

Oh dear is it possible to have a conversation with someone who doesn’t even respond to what you are saying. They just keep saying inane banter over and over again that has no relevance to what you are saying nor do they care what you are saying they just want to hear themselves, how pathetic.

A person that I only know via the internet told me that I am immature because I don’t take drugs or drink alcohol. They are apparently a cocaine addict and have been known to dabble in heroin. Ok, so I’m getting this straight: I don’t rely on substances to alter my mood, I don’t squander large amounts of money on substances and then have nothing but depleted brain cells to show for it, I don’t steal things to pay for drugs, I obey the law and don’t drink alcohol until I am of age, etc. Ok, so I see their point, I’m so immature because I don’t have a lack of brain cells like they do. Hey wow impressive, one point for you moron!
