I am retarded.

September 23, 2007

I am retarded. Yes, you heard me, retarded. No, I am not stupid. However, it appears that my “emotional intelligence” is below average. According to Queendom’s “scientifically validated” test I have an emotional IQ of 84. My “other” IQ is twice that. Does that make me a genius/retard hybrid? I should get Brian to take this test. No doubt, he would have a low score too. Although, he would probably think his EIQ is high going into the test…

I suppose Feeling types had to come up with the Emotional IQ so they would not *feel* inferior to Thinkers. Outside of that, I can see no reason why such a test exists. This is the anti-logic test which actually shows you pictures and asks you how the person is feeling. Their feelings are irrelevant! I am mostly interested in how this test is “scientifically validated” and why it makes me a EIQ retard simply because I do not wish to spend my time crying about my feelings and patting people on the back.

Brian’s New Dream Blog

September 3, 2007

I have just spent the last few hours helping Brian create a blog of his own - MyBleam.com (Blog + Dream) and it is a blog of his dreams, a dream dictionary of sorts, and includes open discussion of enlightenment related things, psychology, current events, sociology, and whatever else a strange INTP can think of… This is not suitable for ISFJ mothers (*hint* not appropriate for Brian’s mother or Katy’s mother *hint*).

Harry Potter Party

July 22, 2007

Brian and I attended the Harry Potter Party at our local Border’s store.  It was interesting.  We waited from 8 PM until about 1:30 AM to get our book.  We had fun seeing all the little kids play the games - they had a Harry Potter spelling bee, the Great Snape Debate (Friend or Foe), a costume contest, and some other stuff…  We sat down in the foreign language section and read our books and walked around.  Then we went through a monstrous queue of people that did not make sense but in the end we got our book, some glow sticks, and a poster.  We also picked up an interesting Chinese book and a Vegetarian Sushi book for me.

We really did not try to read the book until yesterday - and even then we were trying to share.  Being an only child, I am not very good at sharing (Brian is not either but he claims to be good at sharing) - basically, it ended up being that neither of us got much time with the book.  So, last night I read the book from 12:30 - 3 AM and finished it.  It was a quick and easy read but I found it somewhat disappointing, really.  I knew I needed to read it anyway and get it out of my system because it would have been too distracting otherwise.  At any rate, now I am finished with Harry Potter & Sherlock Holmes - the latter of which saddens me.  However, I have since moved on to more scholarly works such as D.H. Lawrence’s The Rainbow.  I am enjoying it already.

If anyone comes across any scholarly works pertaining to Sherlock Holmes or at least something more than fan fiction (I detest fan fiction.) please let me know.

Movies

June 25, 2007

I shall recount now for all to hear the movie horror that hath befallen me this week…

First, we saw Pirates of the Caribbean 3 at the theater  which was visually stunning but the plot was nowhere to be found.

Then, we saw The One with Jet Li, Idiocracy, and the beginning of Season 2 of Friends.  The One was not great - it was rather boring and the story was slow.  The martial arts left a bit to be desired considering that he outmatched all of his opponents because of his super human strength.

Idiocracy - where do I start?  It was humorous in the very beginning where the above average couple is talking about how having children is a big commitment and they do not want to rush into anything.  Then, the next shot is of a below average couple who is on child 15 (or something similar) who keep having stupid kids because they don’t think about the consequences of their actions.  The above average couple continues to age and they never have kids but they dumb people take over the earth.  After that, the movie was really quite bad and cheesy.  I think the bottom line is that humanity should change before they become stupid.  A public service announcement would have done nicely…

Then, Brian wanted to get Friends Season 2 (Disc 1) from Blockbuster.  We watched Season 1 but I am not sure if I really like the show - it seems too similar to Seinfeld in many ways but never as good as Seinfeld.

I think I am finished rambling.

Seinfeld

March 19, 2007

Brian has been making me watch Seinfeld on DVD.  I never even watched the show (or any show, really) when it was on TV years ago.  Brian thinks watching Seinfeld will put me more in touch with the “common man” and what they are thinking (or not thinking).  I do think it is an interesting show and it’s really not about “nothing” but rather about mundane everyday things in life.  We are also watching Voyager on DVD as well.  Wow, what a terrible beginning that show has - we are on season 2 and it is not really getting any better.  Brian says that it picks up at the start of Season 4 when they introduce Seven of Nine.  We shall see…  This weekend, we watched “Conan the Barbarian” with Arnold Schwarzenegger and it was a pretty good movie.  We have been renting a lot of movies lately with the Blockbuster online service - it is not a bad service but our DVDs come from California so it takes about 2-3 days to receive them which is quite unfortunate.  Oh well, we are busy anyway…

Body Boarding

March 18, 2007

Yesterday, Brian and I went to the body board shop of his colleague’s boyfriend and I found a new board.  I really like it - it’s a Mike Stewart Science board in blue.  I had fun with it down at Honolii Beach yesterday too.  I did end up with a busted lip and scraped knees but I had a blast.  Apparently, the day before a whale had died off the coast and 14 ft. sharks were seen eating it - I found this out when I was already in the water.  ;)  The absolute coolest part was being able to surf with some turtles - apparently  they really like to surf at Honolii - they are really cute too.  It was great…

I am reclaiming my venting space.

March 11, 2007

I was not able to sleep last night because of my sunburn but I got out of bed at 7 AM when Brian got up. He announced that we needed to head over to Kona AGAIN (we just went on Thursday and returned on Friday evening) so we could drop off this packet at the Kona office that he forgot to leave on Friday. He claimed it could not be faxed or sent via mail but this is entirely untrue. So, we ventured over to Kona and made the almost three hour drive to Kealakekua (south of Kona) and he just had to stop at every bookstore in Kona and finally we ate lunch. Then, we drove down to Kealakekua to drop off this *super important* packet and the gate was locked so we were unable to leave the packet. We drove all the way over there for NOTHING. The ONLY thing I wanted this morning was some advil to kill the pain of my sunburn and to take back a couple of DVDs to Blockbuster. I was unable to do anything I needed or wanted to do today. Then he bailed out on the drive from Kona to Kealakekua and also the drive home because he was tired and driving like a maniac and had a major attitude problem. Naturally, the better driver was me since I had no sleep to his 9 hours of sleep… Yeah, right. After we found out that he couldn’t drop off this *super important* package that we just drove three hours to hand deliver he just shrugged his shoulders and said “oh well” and did not even bother to call the director to get them to come or ask to drop it by their house. Yeah, it must have been REALLY important. Right. What’s he doing with the packet tomorrow - he’s faxing it. What a way to waste the day…

It really gets under my skin because he gets annoyed with me if I run only one errand in town - like *only* going to the grocery store which puts a grand total of 5 miles on the car roundtrip.  But he just takes off on a random joy ride to Kona and that is okay - especially when we JUST went there!  Gas is incredibly expensive here and to top it off he always has to buy a ton of books and then we have to eat at least one meal en route to Kona or on the way back - it’s just an absurd waste of money for a trip that wasn’t even fun.  Bleh, I’m not even going to talk about how horrible the rest of the trip was today, it’s just not worth it.

I am done venting now.

Sewing Table & My Dresser

February 16, 2007

So, I got my sewing table yesterday and I also got my dresser as well.  Brian said he would actually help me stain the dresser this weekend, yay!  He’s slightly less anti-dresser but that’s not saying much.  He told me I should keep the dresser in the basement or just store my clothes in the rec room in the basement - yeah right.  I got the dresser from our local unfinished furniture store.  I wanted something that was solid wood and high quality but I was not going to pay one of the furniture stores around here for some hideous piece of furniture made out of 10% wood and 90% crap approximately $800 for just a chest of drawers - no thank you.

Brian has had a sore throat for about a week so we’re going to take him to the doctor today to make sure he is okay.  Hopefully, they will give him something that will help him feel better…

More later…

Annoyed but Happy?

November 4, 2006

So, I am annoyed but also really happy.  Go figure.

The Good
We went to ‘Imiloa today - that is the astronomy center here on the island.  Of course, the Big Island has the best telescopes on the planet and the best place to view them and in conjunction with the university they have set up a multi-million dollar planetarium and cultural and astronomy center.  It is amazing - we are shocked.  We spent four hours there and only left because we were starving to death.  They had a restaurant but we did not know it until we left.  That place is unbelievable - it really belongs in a huge city not in Hilo… We are going to get a membership there.  Since Brian is faculty at the sponsoring university it works out to be very cheap - so that is a plus.

Brian got me three servers and also a monitor for free (from his workplace) so now I can have more development environments - yay!  I have 2 dell servers and one custom server.  I am installing Debian 3.1, OpenBSD 4.0, and Mandriva “Mandrake” - so that will be great.  My office is a wreck but it does make me glad that I have all this free hardware which is in great shape.  I only had to replace a power supply, floppy drive, and a hard drive…

My father and I are talking about doing some business together and I’ve got some open source projects I am interested in working on and creating…  More on that later.

The Bad

Brian is now a “high-powered” executive with peripheral involvement in local politics and he is faculty at the university.  This is great and this should have nothing to do with me, right?  Wrong.  I am doing web development for Brian’s company and issues are arising related to that which are annoying me to death.  I will just be glad to cut ties with these people.  I am still trying to figure out how to do that without hurting Brian - I may just have to suck it up in the long run.  His boss referred to me sarcastically as the “contract expert” and at home he probably calls me a contract nazi.  I work based on the contract, this is a bad thing?  I guess so in “dakine whatevers” Hawaii… Whatever.
I have a horrible rash - probably from weird hormones and blood sugar issues that are still being taken care of…

We had vog here today - it was awful and oppressive.

I feel tired but can’t sleep.
